Monday 25th July 2005 - Los Angeles: Shopping and Venice Beach

Breakfasted at the International House of Pankakes (IHOP), where we had an enormous selection of pancakes and omellete. We then drove up the hill to the Hollywood sign, taking photos at various points. Then we went to a sporting goods superstar, Sports Chalet and spent over $1000 on camping equipment, clothes and so on. This had always been our plan so that we could take advantage of the exchange rate. After this, we went to Venice Beach and had an excellent afternoon there sun bathing, swimming and boogie-boarding (on Jack's new board!) and playing ball games. Finally we went shopping for groceries in preparation for our road trip and first few days under canvas. These were mostly stashed in our new cooler box under lots of ice.

Our first decent sighting of the world-famous Hollywood sign
This time a bit closer....
After shopping for camping gear we headed on to Venice Beach
Venice Beach is a fairly arty place, with sculpture, poetry and painting here and there...
It's also a great place for people watching, with lots of weird and wonderful shops and stalls
Mad dogs etc. It was very hot on the beach. Volley ball was first on the agenda.
Followed by swimming and playing on Jack's new and very awesome "boogie board"
Jack hanging ten
Jack wore Martin out playing various ball games. Great fun!
Catch that if you can!
