Sunday 13th August 2006 - Venice

We took a ferry from by the campsite across the lagoon to Venice proper. Initially, we walked towards St Mark's square, enjoying our first sight of beautiful Venice. Before long we came to a gondola station though and couldn't resist treating ourselves to a 45 minute private ride! It cost 100 euro but was worth it as a "must do" thing in Venice.

Afetrwards, wontinued to St Marks and went into the cathedral. It has lovely gold mosaic ceilings.

Venice *is* very beautiful... much better than Martin remembered from his first ever visit as a 17 year old during his first inter-rail holiday.

We had a picnic lunch and then walked for miles, exploring the piazzas, narrow streets and bridges over the canals. Then we got a ferry back to the mainland and the campsite where we spent the evening.
