Canada : Friday 17th August 2007 - Vancouver Island : Ucluelet

We drove the 100+ km to the Pacific Rim National Park on the west coast of the island. Once again it was pouring down and we decided to look for more comfortable accomodation for the 2 days we intended to spend in the area. Stopping at the visitor's centre, just outside the small coastal town of Ucluelet, they helped us find a vacation home that was available for rent.

We drove around the town and surrounding area to get oriented and then headed to the address of our accomodation. It turned out to be a wooden cabin very close to the edge of the inlet from the sea, with a superb view from the windows and wooden veranda. We unpacked and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon and evening playing games and watching some (bad) TV.

We spoke to our neighbours on the veranda in the evening. They were also from the UK. Whilst talking, we watched the 3 sea lions under the pier 100 metres from us, a black bear wandering along the far shoreline and an eagle perched high up in a tree. Vancouver Island is beginning to redeem itself :-)
