Bangalore, India : 29th February

Martin arrived in Bangalore at about 5:00 on the 29th February. Bangalore is 5 and a half hours ahead of the UK, so whilst this may have been time to get out of bed for some people, it was most certainly time to go *to* bed for Martin when he arrived at the Chancery Pavillion Hotel at around 7:30a.m.

In the afternoon, Martin decided to venture out of the hotel. Friend Sandra was born in Bangalore and Martin decided to try and find her old neighbourhood, armed with the address and a really bad tourist map. After a fairly long walk in the hot sun, Martin decided to try his luck in an "auto-rickshaw", one of the most popular ways to travel in Bangalore. Unfortunately, the driver only seemed to understand the word "church" from "St John's Church Road" and Martin got driven to 3 random churches in succession before deciding to give up and head back to the hotel! It was great fun though, whizzing along through the traffic and getting a first taste of the sights and sounds of India.

After returning to the hotel, Martin got a hotel driver to take him back to Sandra's old road, which was only about a 20 minute drive away. Sadly, Martin still couldn't figure out from Sandra's information, quite where her old home was and so called it a day, heading back to the hotel again.

In the evening, Martin had his first taste of Indian food, including southern Indian classics, Sambar and Dosa. Yummy! And of course Kingfisher Lager. Watched Woody Allen's Manhattan on the laptop.

This was a short walk from the hotel. To keep Bangalore tidy, Martin made a mental note to neither drop litter or urinate in that particular spot :-)
Auto-rickshaws are everywhere and are very very cool. The only way to travel!

There's probably no better place in the world to be a cow.
We passed many small and medium sized Hindu temples.
