Lisbon, Portugal 13th December 2007

Martin went to Lisbon for a meeting with Vodafone, spending a night and a day in the city. This was Martin's first time in Portugal and especially interesting since the Woolleys will be spending a week in the country over Easter 2008. Fortunately, with work activities finished by lunchtime, and Martin's flight not until early evening, there was time for a wander and some photographs. Wikipedia has lots of information about Lisbon.

By the River Tejo (Tagus) with the huge Vasco da Gama Bridge in the background..
Lisbon is quite an arty city it seems, with modern sculpures, painted buildings and some splendid modern architecture.
This photograph doesn't quite do justice to the beatifully simple and clean lines of this structure.
This is just an "ordinary" apartment block.
.. as is this. Beats the ones we have in the UK!
The Praco de Comercio square
There are lots of colourful, old trams in this part of Lisbon
And the police get about on these
Martin climbed to the top of the hill overlooking the city.... dragging his luggage up many steps like these
View of the river nearing the top of the hill
At the top of the hill lay the Castelo de Sao Jorge whose many canons protected the city in years gone by
