50 km south of Namoora is a small, historic village called Tilba Tilba, which sits at the foot of 2500 feet high Mount Dromedary. I drove there in the morning, and set off on what was officially deemed a 5 hour return trip. 3 hours 10 minutes later I was back in the village, having made it all the way to the summit and back again, pausing for the odd rest, the occassional energy-giving banana and two futile attempts to photograph a couple of large but very shy and very quick brown lizards!
The walk was good and quite strenous... most mountain trails zig-zag across and up to lessen the gradient, but this one seemed to go straight up most of the time. The summit was a bit of a disappointment.... it was shrouded in mist/cloud and surrounded by rain forest so that views were pretty much hidden. But the getting there was good. I saw a few parrots of various colours and heard many more birds in the trees, which sometimes resembled a jungle. Good stuff.
